About Engedi Artistry

No left brain is complete without its right half.

A few months ago, I started another blog called LYEATT: Leave Your Ego at the Threshold. I still maintain that blog, and its focus has been on more "left-brained" kind of matters. Specifically, it has been focused on sharing emerging ideas about business, marketing, and faith directed at young professionals like myself. I have found it a joy writing the posts, and the feedback I have received on it so far has been positive. Thank you!

Recently, I have been teaching myself graphic design under an aspiring called the Hundley Design Company. It has been a really enjoyable and enlightening process, so I wanted to talk about it in blog form.

But it just didn't seem appropriate for the LYEATT blog. Don't get me wrong, I love that blog and will continue to write new content for it. I felt that this work needed its own space.

Moreover, I don't want to talk about just my own work. Nor do I want to focus on graphic design only. I have a profound appreciation for all forms of artistic endeavors. You might also call it an appreciation for craftsmanship since I want to talk about the artistry within, I don't know, creating a beautiful iPhone case.

Introducing Engedi Artistry.

Engedi Artistry (or just Engedi as I'll probably refer to it a lot) is a blog focused on just that. We'll explore a variety of things related artistry and beauty in life. This, of course, will include my own graphic design process from my new side business, Hundley Design Co. I also intend on doing "Artist Spotlights" where I will talk about the work about people I really appreciate.

You might be curious about the name, and a few of you may already recognize it. Engedi (or Ein Gedi) is a real location. It is an oasis and nature reserve located amongst the desert landscape of Israel. Engedi is actually mentioned in the Bible a few times, one of those being within Song of Solomon 1:14:

My beloved is to me a cluster of henna blossoms in the vineyards of Engedi.

When I think about this passage of Scripture amidst the rest of Song of Solomon, I think about how there are a lot of desecrate and downtrodden things in life, but, like Engedi, there are places we can "escape" to and revitalize ourselves with beauty.

I am very excited for what this blog will herald, so I hope you join me in exploring all this art that life holds in store.
